Delaware Water Gap

From the town of Delaware Water Gap, left on 611, after about 4 roads turn right on Mountain Rd. (go up the hill) parking is on the left.

Difficult turn on to Mountain Rd. for larger vehicles.

mail@rohland.org
Large parking lot on the PA side of Delaware Water Gap. Secluded. No known reports of vandalism. However the Jersey side is a different story with someone recently prosecuted there for vandalism. Again day use is OK. dvamc@enter.net
Turn at the "Deer Head Inn" - it is a well known historic land mark on the main street. I would imagine it would be very difficult to maneuver a large vehicle into the parking area. It may be better to park on the side street directly across from the Deer Head Inn since it adds only 1/4 mile to a hike Don.Burchell@po-box.esu.edu

Fox Gap

Exit I-80 at 191 South. Proceed on 191 S for about 8 miles to Rt. 611. Continue approximately 2 miles south on 191 from 611. Parking on right.   starman12@webtv.net

Fox gap has a very small parking lot. Some reports of vandalism over the years, OK for day use.

Delaware Water Gap: There is a small outfitter about 3/4 of a mile from the exit of 80 on your way to the parking area (it's called the Pack Shack). It is true Americana and a step back in time and into an authentic Appalachian culture. (very laid back, and worth a stop, for the experience). Other points of interest are the Deer Head Inn with it's world renowned jazz musicians (free on Sunday nights).      Don.Burchell@po-box.esu.edu

Wind Gap

Wind Gap has a medium size parking lot right on a major road, frequently used by over nighters. Not real large, it is ideal on weekdays may not accommodate an RV on a nice fall weekend. There may be places that could accommodate an RV in the town of Wind Gap. Perhaps the police could help with that. dvamc@enter.net 6
At Wind Gap the lot is right on the road and very close to Route 33. The lot is tilted, but you should be able to fit an RV in there. Dan.Schwartz@lehigh.edu

5.6

Katellen

There is a state gamelands parking lot at Katellen. This lot is of ample size to fit an RV and are "off" the road. The Katellen trails are only accessible from the south side of the mountain. Dan.Schwartz@lehigh.edu

Smith Gap

From the 2 approaches that we found, there were load restrictions for larger vehicles (5 tons). mail@rohland.org
The road crossing at Smith Gap where there is also parking both in a small parking lot and right along the road. Not recommended for leaving cars overnight. dvamc@enter.net
Smith Gap has a small parking area at the road crossing. Easy to find, but not much parking. Usually you can fit in 2-3 cars on each side of the ridgeroad (maybe an RV if nobody else is parked there). Dan.Schwartz@lehigh.edu 2-3
I just wanted to send you an update on the Smith Gap parking area in Section 2 as of 4/1/01. On the Appalachian Trail maps of PA (The Appalachian Trail Guide - Pennsylvania) there is a small parking area shown a short distance downhill from the trail crossing on Smith Gap road. This parking area has been blocked off, and is NOT usable. The ONLY parking spots are where the trail crosses Smith Gap Road (off the side of the road in the dirt), and only 2 cars can fit there. We left our car there overnight, but I wouldn't recommend it. sailawye@hotmail.com

10.6

Delps Side trail

There is a game lands parking lot at Delps trail head. Not the easiest place to find. The climb up is a steep one and is good conditioning if you want that sort of climb. dvamc@enter.net 20-30
At Delps the gamelands lot is difficult to find, as you go up an unmarked dirt road between some houses and then make a right turn off into the woods for a ways. If you don't know where it is, you'll probably have difficulty finding this lot. The Delps trail is only accessible from the south side of the mountain. This lot is of ample size to fit an RV and are "off" the road. Dan.Schwartz@lehigh.edu

15.5

Little Gap

From the entrance to Blue Mountain Ski Resort, proceed up the hill. Parking is on the right hand side at the crest of the hill.   mail@rohland.org 16
Little Gap has a large Gamelands parking lot Lehigh Gap has a large NPS parking lot on the northern side of the Gap. Very limited parking on the Southern side. dvamc@enter.net
At Little gap the Lot is easy to find and about 150 yards south of the road crossing.   Dan.Schwartz@lehigh.edu
N 40º48.362’ W075º32.087’ -this is for the large SGL parking area just south of the AT in Little Gap The intersection of the AT and the road is at N 40º48.471’ W075º32.069’. H2oboyhike@aol.com

20.6

Leigh Gap

Lehigh Gap, Little Gap, Smith Gap and Wind Gap are areas where roads cross over the mountain so that you can reach parking from either side. On the south side routes 946 and 512 are the quickest way to travel the length, on the north side there is a road that goes pretty much along the bottom of the ridge between Wind Gap and Little Gap. There is a large lot at Lehigh Gap (on the east side of the river just over the highway (up an unmarked dirt road). Dan.Schwartz@lehigh.edu

We maintain 10 + miles from Little Gap to lehigh Furnace Gap. I find the descriptions in the AT Trail Guide for Pa very good. In our section there is parking at all crossing roads. It is hard to say how many can park at a given spot. You can expect on Game Lands parking that there will be space for about 10 cars. If you are in hunting season there may not be any room. Road parking generally is limited to 3-4 cars. In the lehigh gap on the RR bed there is room for about 20 cars. Across the river there is room for about 6 cars, unless someone blocks some of the space, which often happens. As a rule during the week, certainly in early spring and late fall there is no one parking in these spots. hope this helps and enjoy your hiking.       kenna@ComCAT.COM

We were stopped there for a few minutes and saw lots of cars passing by Edward Dery room for a few cars There were also 4 or 5 cars parked along side the road.

You've named this Jacksonville-Snyders Cross Mt. Rd., but I saw no road signs with that name. I found Springhouse Road off Gun Club Road and kept turning uphill at each intersection, where it was marked, signs said Springhouse Road; about 1/4 mile below the AT crossing was a building called the Springhouse. This has to be the same place because it is 2 miles South of Rt 309.40 41.76N, 75 50.60W

Hamburg

From Hamburg, take old route 22 east past St. Paul Lutheran. Turn left on Resevoir Rd. parking area for Pulpit Rock and Pinacle mail@rohland.org
I have been wanting to report an incident there. I was picking up my cousin from a long section hike on the AT. I saw this area on the AT map listing camping and overnight parking. When I pulled into the lot I saw lots of cars and no signs saying overnight parking prohibited, so I left the car there and hiked up to the AT to camp. Early the next morn we hiked back down to the car and saw a parking ticket on my car. I looked all around and never saw a sign prohibiting parking. In fact, there was a large painted sign with a map of the camping sites!!!! I wrote to the Hamburg police begging an explanation and their reply was a threatening overdue notice. So I paid the money and wished I could report this to the ATC. If you have an explanation, please reply to this email. llmst27@hotmail.com

The parking area is off of a very dangerous section of 225 - right in the middle of a switchback. Be very careful crossing the road here as well as pulling out of it - cars are traveling at 50 mph and can't see you.

Going from 225 toward Clarks Ferry it appears as if a new section of the trail has been created to accommodate a new microwave tower. This newer section is comprised of loose rocks which make it annoying to hike.

The official AT trail winds through the town of Duncannon for approximately 2 + miles. For those who wish only to hike the sections of the unpopulated trail, we have included mile markers 2.1 and 2.3.

Although we saw another hiker parked in this area on a weekend, we are not sure if this is permitted parking. We saw municipal dumpster that were held in this area.

Caledonia State Park/PA 16

From Caledonia State Park the trail crosses PA 16 between Rouzerville and Blue Ridge Summit. The trail is lovely, curves along the ridge, so minimal climbing.... There was a picnic table there, but it was hidden behind huge tree roots. Tree must have just fallen. (Man was working on it with saw) It made for a lovely afteroon hike. drbob@erols.com The parking allowed for 5-6 cars, and we were the only car there.

Pen Mar

Parking available on the town common (on the grass) across the street from Pen Mar Park entrance, or in the park itself. Talk to the park rangers first if you park in Pen Mar Park(you can't get in or out after the park closes). Park off to the side if you park on the town common. TMarge@DiamondTechnologies.com 10+
