Parking area on US 40 near the I-70 crossing. There is more parking in the opposite direction. A blue-blazed trail starts at the far end of the parking area. It follows a closed section of highway, then descends to the AT, which goes north to Section 3 or south to Section 4.

New trailhead sign. From here you walk on an old road where you''ll find the split to either head north to Annapolis Rock or south to cross over the I-70 footbridge and head to Washington Monument State Park.
