mm 7.3 - Looking south at Gathland State Park in Crampton Gap. The southbound AT crosses the grassy area and ascends the park road on the other side of Gapland Road. One corner of the large parking lot for the picnic area is seen on the left. Also on the left is the War Correspondents Arch. Crampton Gap was the scene of some heavy fighting during the Battle of South Mountain during the Civil War (1862).   Courtesy dlcul@conncoll.edu

A white blaze for the AT is visible while looking towards the north parking lot at Crampton Gap in Gathland State Park. In this view, the War Correspondents Arch is to the right, across Arnoldstown Road. The AT continues up from the northeast side of this parking lot, at an area marked by the red X added to this photo.  Courtesy MalteseCross@Comcast.net
