The section of trail from VA 611 to VA 612 mostly follows the crest of a ridge. The only significant elevation change is at the southern end. However there are a large number of  small knobs. This picture was taken at approx. mm 5.8 as the southbound trail approaches the high point of one of them.  Courtesy dlcul@conncoll.edu

mm 6.1  One of the few landmarks the AT Guide notes for this section is a gap where woods roads run in both directions and there is a telephone line.  This  is probably that gap.  Woods roads (mostly overgrown) do run both directions as the guide states, but there is no telephone line here or anywhere else in this section between VA 611 and VA 612.
