Swift Run Gap		   Poor           Great




 Swift Run Gap is at Mile 65.5 on the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. US 33 crosses the Blue Ridge here. This is the southern end of Section 10 and the northern end of Section 11. The park service has allowed for parking along the Skyline Drive shoulder on both sides of the bridge/overpass. However most of the parking seems to be on the north side of the overpass. Probably the best parking is where the northbound AT leaves Skyline Drive. This on the eastern side of Skyline Drive directly across from the entrance road from US 33. This area is indicated by the marker on the attached map. GPS:N38.3578 W78.5453 The satellite view shows cars parked at several places. Rotate the street view at the marker on the map to the east see the parking spaces and the northbound trail to Section 10 climbing sidehill behind them. Rotate to the south to see the view down Skyline Drive. The southbound trail to Section 11 trail follows this over the US 33 overpass then goes right back into the woods. 1/11/2010 Updated 06/01/19 Numerous spots on shoulder that has been allowed for by park service.

The marker on the map attached here shows the point where the southbound AT leaves Skyline Drive to continue in Section 11. GPS: N38.3565W78.54515 Rotate the street view to the west to see the southbound trail. Rotate to the north to see the route northbound across the US 33 overpass. The trail in Section 10 goes back into the woods near the car parked on the right on the other side of the overpass. 06/01/19

 This parking area is at Mile 66.7 on Skyline Drive, 1.2 miles south of Swift Run Gap (US 33) and 48.7 miles north of Rockfish Gap. . It iis on the west side of road. The marker indicates the actual trail crossing just north of the parking area. See satellite and street views on the attached map. The street view to the west from the location of the marker shows the northbound AT and most of the parking area. The view to the east shows the southbound trail. GPS:N38.34515 W78.5529 The northbound AT towards Swift Run Gap is on the west side of drive, southbound towards Hightop is on east side. 11/20/09 Updated 06/02/19 6-8

Smith-Roach Gap		   Poor           Great




 Smith-Roach Gap is at Mile 68.6 on the Skyline Drive (3.1 miles south of Swift Run Gap (US 33) and 36.8 miles north of Rockfish Gap). . Parking area is on the east side of the road. The AT crosses the road just south of the parking lot. The northbound trail goes east while the southbound trail goes west. The marker on the attached map indicates the trail crossing. Rotate the street view from this point to the east to see the northbound trail (0n extreme right) and the parking area. Rotate to the west to see the southbound trail.  Powell Gap is at Mile 69.9 on the Skyline Drive (4.4 miles south of Swift Run Gap (US 33) and 35.5 miles north of Rockfish Gap). There is no parking lot here but one may pull off the road and park on the grass. See attached map and the street view. The AT crosses the road here. The marker indicates the trail crossing. GPS:N38.3211 W78.5919 If driving from Swift Run Gap, northbound is on the right, southbound is on the left. Rotate the street from the point of the marker to the north to see the northbound trail and south to see the southbound trail. Updated 06/02/19 3-4

Simmons Gap		   Poor           Great




 Simmons Gap is at mile 73.2 on the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. This is 7.7 miles south of Swift Run Gap (US 33) and 32.2 miles north of Rockfish Gap (I-64). Simmons Gap fire road crosses Skyline Drive here. To east is a ranger station. Best parking is to go west on the fire road about 100 feet. Small dirt parking area on the left. The AT crosses Skyline Drive at the intersection of the Drive and Simmons Gap Fire Road. The marker on the attached map indicates the intersection. GPS:N38.3012 W78.6226 The street view from this point to the north shows the parking area on Simmons Gap Fire Road. The street view to the west shows the southbound AT leaving from the southwest corner of the intersection.
