 The Blue Ridge Parkway intersects with VA 664.at Mile 13.1 (miles south of Rockfish Gap) in Reid's Gap. Parking is on south side of VA 664 just east of intersection. See attached map. The marker indicates the intersection.GPS: N37.9022 W78.9852 Rotate the street view to the south to see the dirt parking area. The first photo in the Pictures for this section (16) also shows the parking. Note: I am not sure if the notification requirement for overnight parking applies here but it might be best to call. See Mile 1.7. The AT crosses VA 684 just east of the parking area. The northbound trail to Section 15 goes north (left if coming from Parkway) while the southbound trail to Section 16 goes south (right). (revalidated April 2021) 20

Maupin Field Shelter/ Fire Road		   Poor           Great



 
 Love Gap (sign) is at approximately Mile 16 of the Blue Ridge Parkway. On the satellite view of the attached map, the marker indicates Love Gap. GPS: N37.8838 W79.0097 Parking on the grass is possible. As with all Blue Ridge Parkway parking, the rangers should be notified if planning to park overnight or longer. At this point the Parkway is running east-west. A dirt road leads south through a fence where there is a sign "Private Road" . Immediately after turning off the parkway look to the left to find a gated forest road It initially parallels the parkway. Rotate the street view from the point of the marker on the map to the south to see this pictorially. This gated road is the fire road which the AT joins near Maupin Field Shelter. (See AT guide to Central Virginia.). The distance from Maupin Field Shelter to Love Gap is approximately 1.2 miles,half of it uphill. This route bypasses the climb over Meadow Mountain for southbound hikers. 4/6/21 Several on grass

Tye River (VA 56)		   Poor           Great




 Montebello is two miles E of the Blue Ridge Parkway (Milepost 27.9) on VA 56. From the heart of "downtown" Montebello (general store and post office)go southeast on VA 56 8.2 miles to parking lot at the Tye River. Parking lot is on right side of road. There is a parking pull-off on the other side of the road. These can be seen on the satellite view of the attached map. The marker on the map show the entrance to the parking lot. GPS: N37.83845 W79.0231 Rotate the street view from the point of the marker to see a ground level view of the parking. The northbound trail to Section 16 crosses the road from the parking area and soon goes over the Tye River footbridge which can be seen in the satellite view due east of the parking area. The southbound AT to Section 17 leaves from the the northwest corner of the parking area and begins the long climb to the Priest. (revalidated May 2023) 20
