The community of Crandon is on VA 42 14 miles west of the intersection of VA 42 and VA 100. It is 9.5 miles east of "downtown" Bland. The intersection of VA 608 and VA 42 is in Crandon. Follow VA 608 north for 0.9 miles . There should be a parking pull-off on the right. The marker on the attached map indicates this point. GPS: N37.1570 W80.9612 The name of the road on the Google Map is Price Ridge Road, not Lickskillet Hollow Road, the name given in the AT guide to SW Virginia.

This point is officially in Section 35 hence the negative mile marker. The northbound trail goes east from VA 608 at the parking lot. This would be on the right if coming from Crandon. The southbound trail goes south along the road for 0.1 miles before going west back into the woods. See next to last photo in the Pictures for Section (35) to get a view of the parking area. 08/14/19

See Mile -0.1 for directions to Crandon and the intersection of VA 42 and VA 608. Follow VA 608, .8 miles north to the point where the southbound trail goes left (west) into the woods. The red marker on the attached map indicates this point. GPS: N37.1558 W80.9618. There is no parking here Continue another 0.1 miles on VA 608 to the parking area on the right. See Mile -0.1. This is the official southern terminus of Section 35 and the northern terminus of Section 36. The northbound trail (to Section 35) follows the road north for 0.1 mile to the parking area then goes right(east). As noted in the Directions the southbound trail (to Section 36) goes west into the woods. The first photo in the Pictures for this section (36) shows this. 3/3/2006 Updated 08/14/19

Take Exit 52 off I-77. Go about 0.5 miles east on US 52 to downtown Bland. Continue to follow US 52 when it turns left. In a short distance go right (east) on VA 42. From this point it is about 7 miles to the intersection with VA 611, which is also called Slide Mountain Road. . Go left (north) on VA 611 for 1.2 miles to the trail crossing which occurs on a curve in the road. Parking is on the right side of the road. It is only a small pull-off good for 2-3 cars.

See directions to the parking on US 52 ( Mile 13.3). From there continue north on US 52 for another 0.1 miles.. Take the first right onto VA 612. This intersection is at the point where US 52 switchbacks to the left. VA 612 descends and crosses I-77 on an overpass. There is an intersection with a Forest Service Road (formerly VA 640) just beyond. Continue approximately 0.3 miles further on VA 612 to a parking area on the right. The marker on the attached map indicates this parking area. GPS:N37.1397 W81.11198

The route described from the parking on US 52 is also that of the AT. AT the parking area, the northbound AT goes right and reenters the woods, beginning the ascent to Brushy Mt. 12/07/10 Updated 08/15/19

Take Exit 52 off I-77. Go about 0.5 miles east to downtown Bland. Go left and follow US 21, 52 north for 2.8 miles. The road crosses under I-77. At the point where the highway curves right and begins to descend, there is a cluster of buildings. A road comes in from the left. This is USFS 282 but it is signed as Wyrick Trail. Parking is just north of the intersection. The marker on the attached map indicates the intersection. GPS: N37.13705 W81.1330 The street view the north from this point shows the parking area on the left.

The northbound trail (to Section 36) follows the highway north, soon turning onto VA 612 and crossing I-77. The southbound trail (to Section 37) follows gravel Wyrick Trail (USFS 282) west. 11/30/09 Updated 08/15/19
