West End I-80 Delaware River Bridge
   Poor           Great

GPS:40.982440 -75.138069 Drop-off/Pick-up only See Comments The official north end of NJ Section 1 is at the west end of the I-80 bridge across the Delaware River. The southbound trail to PA Section 1 goes left onto a dead-end street and on to the village of Delaware Water Gap. Parking or even stopping on the Interstate is dangerous. Drop-off/ pickup may be possible at the end of the dead end street. This is the point indicated by the marker on the attached map. Closest parking on the Pennsylvania side is on the streets of Delaware Water Gap or at the hiker parking lot at the point where Mountain Road is barricaded to vehicular travel (See Mile 0.2 and 0.4). The northbound trail (to NJ Sec. 6) crosses the bridge using a pedestrian walkway on the south side of the bridge. Parking is also available on the NJ side near the Visitor Center. This is about a mile away (See NJ Section 6 Mile 12.7). There is a relatively new marker depicting border of PA and NJ in middle of walkway on bridge. Updated 4/10/21

   Poor           Great

From the town of Delaware Water Gap, left on 611, after about 4 roads turn right on Mountain Rd. (go up the hill) parking is on the left. GPS: N40.58.788 W75.08.509 Difficult turn on to Mountain Rd. for larger vehicles May be better option to park near The Deer Head Inn. It only adds a quarter of a mile hike. Large parking lot on the PA side of Delaware Water Gap. Vandalism has been reported. Please do not leave anything visible that may have value to vandals. Lot fills up quickly during peak hiking seasons. Old fire tower road is also another option to get to the top of the mountain. It reconnects with AT near peak. 10/26/20 20-25

See directions (Mile 0.2) to the intersection of Waring St./ Mountain Road and Main Street. The Deerhead Inn is at the southwest corner of this intersection. Follow Mountain Road south for one long block then bear left up Lake Street another 0.1 miles to the parking area on the right. The blue line shows the northbound route of the AT through Delaware Water Gap to the end of Delaware St. at I-80. The Google map shows Lake Street continuing south from the parking lot, but this is now only a fire access road and is only open to foot traffic. Southbound trail leaves from Kiosk. Lake Lenape is about 0.2 miles south from the lot. Northbound heads back out the parking lot on the same road you entered and goes towards town. 10/26/20 (updated April 2023)

I just hiked here and the directions were accurate. One side of road holds about 4-6 cars. Rt. 191 is dangerous-be careful crossing 07/02/20 (revalidated April 2023) 4-6

Fox Gap AT Parking lot holds about 5-6 cars. Parking is only on one side so if hiking NOBO, you will have to cross Rt 191 which is around a bend and cars speed in this section. So watch out. 01/03/24

Delaware Water Gap: There is a small outfitter about 3/4 of a mile from the exit of 80 on your way to the parking area (it's called the Pack Shack). It is true Americana and a step back in time and into an authentic Appalachian culture. (very laid back, and worth a stop, for the experience). Other points of interest are the Deer Head Inn with it's world renowned jazz musicians (free on Sunday nights).
