We have had some of our guests park at our B&B while they hiked a section of the trail, staying with us either before or after they have walked the section of the trail for this year. My son does shuttling if they wish to a starting point and they walk back to us or what other arrangements they wish to make.

The trail parallels a lovely lake in the town park. This is a nice area to stop, rest and enjoy the ducks and scenery.

There is limited day use parking at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Mid-Atlantic Regional office. (Please register with office staff.) For long term or overnight parking at the nearby historical park, get a permit from the ATC regional office during working hours (or call ahead during office hours at 717-258-5771 to make other arrangements). There is no overnight parking in the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission parking lot by the lake. 05/21/09

The markers on this map indicate the location of the ATC office. From here the southbound trail (to Sec. 11) goes south along the east shore of the lake. If you rotate the street view to the south, the ATC office is on the left. The southbound AT follows the path and the end of the parking are. The northbound trail (to Sec. 10) goes east along PA 174 for 0.3 miles then goes left (north) into the woods. Rotate the view to the east to look along PA 174. The trail goes left just past the crest of the hill seen in the view. 09/16/09
Update: Google has changed the street view and for some reason has fuzzed out the ATC office and parking lot.

From Route 174 in Boiling Springs go south on Front Street. AT the south end of the lake, go left over a narrow bridge. Continue straight ahead about 0.1 miles to the parking area on the right. The old furnace for the iron works is here.

There are two parking areas on this side of the lake which is south of the AT Regional Office. The parking area off of Front street (Marker A on the attached map) includes a boat ramp where you can launch canoes into the lake. The Iron Works parking (Marker B) is off of Bucher Hill Rd. The trail goes through this Iron Works area parking area then goes north along the east side of the lake to the ATC office on PA 174, the official north end of Section 11 and the southern end of Section 10. Both parking areas are a short walk from each other. See mile 0.0 for more specifics about parking regulations.

Follow Front Street south from PA 174. This goes along the wet side of the lake. Take the first left at the south end of the lake onto Race Street. Immediately cross a narrow bridge, then bear right, staying on Race St. This crosses the stone arch brdge over Yellow Breeches Creek. Take the second left onto Ledligh Road (about 0.3 miles from Front Street). Continue 0.5 miles to the trail crossing. Parking is very limited here. It might be possible to park on the grass on the south side of the road.

The southbound trail reaches Ledligh Road at the intersection with Gutshall Road. the trail turns left, follows Ledligh Road for about a hundred feet, the turns right back into a field. The marker on the attached map indicates this latter point. 07/03/10

The section between Whiskey Springs and Oldtown Road is really quite charming, with beautiful boulders for scrambling and picnicking. Amazing area (right in our own backyard!)... 9/6/05

The AT crosses the road where the Mason-Dixon Trail begins, so if you are coming from the Dillsburg side of the mountain, you will be able to follow blue blazes along Whiskey Spring Road for several miles, right to the AT. Whiskey Spring Road is also accessible from Boiling Springs & Route 94.

There are several places to pull off on Whiskey Spring Road, though parked cars are left very near to the traffic lanes. Pulling out of these spots can be very tricky, since you won't be able to see cars coming up the mountain, and people fly up this road. 01/06/08

Whiskey Springs Road isn't easy to find if coming from Boiling Springs. Here are two routes.
1. Follow Front Street south from PA 174. This goes along the west side of the lake. Take the first left at the south end of the lake onto Race Street. Immediately cross a narrow bridge, then bear right, staying on Race St. This crosses the stone arch brdge over Yellow Breeches Creek, then bears right and becomes Mountain Road. At 2.8 miles from PA 174, turn left on Whiskey Springs Road. Go 1.3 miles to the trail crossing.
2. From the intersection of PA 174 and Walnut Street, which is a block west of the lake, follow Walnut Street south. This bears right and becomes Park Road. At 2.1 miles from PA 174, go left on Petersburg Road. In about a mile and a half, this becomes Whiskey Springs Road. The trail crossing is 3 miles from Park Road.

It's also possible to park on Old Town Road, as I did today -- a gravel mess between Whiskey Spring and Sheet Iron Road... There's no pull-off on Old Town, but there's almost no traffic. 9/6/05

From parking on Sheet Iron Roof Road (See Mile 8.6): Continue on Sheet iron Roof Road. In about a mile the intersection with Mountain Road is reached. Go right on the gravel road for 0.5 miles to the trail crossing.

See mile 8.8 for driving directions to the AT crossing of PA 94. Continue another 0.1 miles to the next left. This is Sheet Iron Roof Road. There is a pole for a streeet sign, but the street sign itself has apparently been missing for a long time. There is a sign indicating a left turn to get to Deer Run Campground. Go left 0.3 miles to the AT crossing.

Follow PA 34 from Carlisle (Exit 47 from I-81, I believe). Continue through the town of Mount Holly Springs. About a mile further is the intersection with PA 94. Continue straight on PA 94 for 1.3 miles to the AT crossing which is just before the first sign for Deer Run Campground. The intersection with Sheet Iron Road is 0.1 miles further (no road sign but another Deer Run Campground sign.) As far as I'm concerned, parking at the crossing is non-existent. I did see a parking pull off on the east side about 0.1 miles north on PA 94. This is towards Mount Holly Springs. It is just at the top of hill and just south of some houses. See attached map. There were no signs prohibiting parking, just dumping. It would be a lousy place to park overnight. Much better parking is 0.2 miles trail north on Sheet Iron Road (See Mile 8.6 of Sec. 11) 0 at trail crossing with 2-3 in pull off to the north

At the crossing, the southbound AT goes right (if you are driving from the direction of Mt Holly Springs), starting to climb a hill. The northbound trail goes left and descends. The marker on the attached map indicates the trail crossing. 04/02/09
