Pen Mar (State Line)
  Poor            Great

The official southern end of PA Section 14 and the northern end of MD Section 1 is at the Mason-Dixon Line (i.e. the PA/MD state line). Three is no road access to this point. Closest parking is at Pen Mar Road (Mile 17.8 of PA Section 14). There is also parking at Pen Mar park (See Mile 0.2). Safety ratings here are for the parking on Pen Mar Road. From the parking area on Pen Mar Road, follow the AT southbound. Go around the gate at the parking pull-off and follow an old right-of--way south, then cross a railroad track to reach the state line. There used to be signs for the state line and the Mason-Dixon line but they are presently missing (stolen?). The posts are still there. Alternatively one can follow the AT north from Pen Mark Park to this point. 09/19/09 0 at this point

Continue straight ahead onto High Rock Drive for about a block and a half to the parking area on the left. Washington County parks strongly recommends that you register your car with them. They notify the Sheriffs dept so that you won't get your car towed. This is especially true if you plan on leaving your car for more than 2 or 3 days. They will email you a sign to print that says "DO NOT TOW" and a phone number for them to check. You have to park in the public park area which is outside the park. If you park inside the gates of the park you will probably be locked out if it is after hours and you'll probably be towed. 05/09/16 1 1

(1) the make and model of your vehicle;
(2) registered owners name;
(3) tag information;
(4) dates the vehicle will parked.

Ms. Casey will respond with a "do not tow" pass, as an attachment, that is to be printed and posted in your vehicle so local police will know that the vehicle has been registered. Pen Mar Park

There is a large paved lot across from the parking lot on the town green side of High Rocks Road. (See above). This lot is in the park itself. It is apparently gated when the park is officially closed. There are also signs prohibiting overnight parking. This lot is probably only suitable for day hikes. The markers on the attached map. indicate this lot. Walk west across the park to reach the AT. 06/11/11 Ample 1

This is the same map as in the previous listing, but showing the street view. Rotate the street view to the southeast. The southbound trail goes behind the guard rail on the right side of the road, parallels the highway for a bit before bearing right into the woods. Rotate the street view to the northeast. Note the post with white markings on the left side of the road. This s the trailhead for the northbound AT. The street view also shows the availability of roadside parking. 01/17/10 1
