An advance parking pass is now available for overnight parking at PenMar. It is not required, but is strongly recommended for those leaving their vehicle for more than a couple of nights. To acquire a pass, email Christine Casey ccasey@washco-md.net at the Washington County Parks and Facilities Dept. the following information:

(1) the make and model of your vehicle;
(2) registered owners name;
(3) tag information;
(4) dates the vehicle will parked.

Ms. Casey will respond with a "do not tow" pass, as an attachment, that is to be printed and posted in your vehicle so local police will know that the vehicle has been registered. The phone number to call to reach Ms. Casey is 240-313-2700 Tue-Fri. 6am - 4:30pm (reduced hours in winter and more information here: http://www.washco-md.net/parks_facilities/p-PenMarPark.shtm) 10/13/14

Pen Mar Park
   Poor           Great

There is a large paved lot across from the parking lot on the town green side of High Rocks Road. (See above). This lot is in the park itself. It is apparently gated when the park is officially closed. There are also signs prohibiting overnight parking. This lot is probably only suitable for day hikes. The markers on the attached map. indicate this lot. Walk west across the park to reach the AT. 06/11/11 Ample

GPS N39.66469, W77.53604 The Google map link shows the parking as pretty far from the AT. I took the reading on my GPS and we were parked right at the AT crossing of MD 491. There is a lot of available parking along the shoulder of the road. 11/01/08 many

This is the same map as in the previous listing, but showing the street view. Rotate the street view to the southeast. The southbound trail goes behind the guard rail on the right side of the road, parallels the highway for a bit before bearing right into the woods. Rotate the street view to the northeast. Note the post with white markings on the left side of the road. This s the trailhead for the northbound AT. The street view also shows the availability of roadside parking. 01/17/10
